Sue Johnston began her career as a watercolorist upon retirement from 25 years as an elementary teacher in Oakland, California. Following a lifelong dream to learn how to paint with watercolors she took classes at Merritt College in Oakland, Ca.
Sue joined the California Watercolor Association in 1998 and has served on numerous committees, as vice president in charge of the annual National Exhibition in 03, and as president of CWA from 2004 to 2008.
Sue finds inspiration and guidance from her husband Mike, 3 children and 3 grandchildren.
She paints primarily in the studio drawing from photographs she takes during travels, focusing on people in everyday life, and the beauty of the landscape. She also finds satisfaction in experimenting in abstraction.
Ms. Johnston has been recognized in national exhibitions such as Arizona Aqueous, Watercolor West, the San Diego Watercolor Society, and the Northwest Watercolor Society. Her work has been represented by the Triton Museum in Santa Clara, California. Her work has been featured in California Watercolor Association National Exhibitions earning her signature membership
Her work is currently exhibited in Gallery Concord, in Concord, California.
