Sue Johnston began her career as a watercolorist upon retirement from 25 years in public education, serving her community as an elementary teacher.
Following a lifelong dream to become proficient in watercolors, Sue began by taking classes at her local community college. Later she took classes and workshops from renowned artists, among them, Jane Hofstedtter, Arne Westerman, Judy Greenberg, John T. Salminen and Karen Frey.
Sue became a member of California Watercolor Association in 1998 and has served on numerous committees, been vice president in charge of the CWA 34th Annual National Exhibition and currently serves as president of CWA. Sue became a signature member of CWA in 2005.
Sue Johnston has been recognized in national exhibitions such as Arizona Aqueous 2001, Watercolor West 2002 and West 2002 and the 34th and 37th Annual National Exhibitions of the California Watercolor Association. ( 2002, 2005) Winning the Savoir Faire Award in 2002 for her painting ' Pitchers With Pig". Sue also received the
Jurors Award for her painting, "Rocks Rock!" at the
2006 Northwest Watercolor Society Exhibition. California Watercolor Association 2002, and Northwest Watercolor Society 2006.
Sue has been twice published in Watercolor Magic Creative Challenge, Autumn 2002 and October 2004.
Sue's work is currently on exhibit in Gallery Concord, Concord California and the Blackhawk Gallery in Danville, California. Sue's work is also represented in many private collections throughout the country and in Europe.
